I am using ubuntu(i know is different from centos), but when you click on vlc, it starts just normally,
Maybe there is a problem with vlc or the computer, or i dont know anything of centos."Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer"

you must login ssh as normal user first, not as root.
then start your vnc software.

you should create vnc by non root account.
what would be the difference anyway, running vnc as root or not?
