LulzSec Denies Reports that Leader was Arrested

There's some conflicting information circulating around the Interwebs - surprise surprise. Several major news providers are reporting this morning that a member of LulzSec has been arrested by Scotland Yard in the United Kingdom. Conversely, LulzSec is reporting that no such event occurred.

LulzSec of course is the notorious hacker group that has launched a series of attacks again various targets, typically law enforcement and security firms such as the CIA's website. The attacks have a similar vibe to the string of attacks launched by anonymous late last year against similar targets like ACS:Law and other anti-P2P entities.

However, LulzSec has become significantly more brazen in its approach, utilizing mass media to effectively circulate its message. Initial reports by Scotland Yard appear to suggest that LulzSec's activities have caught up to them, at least on the surface. According to Scotland Yard, a 19 year old teen has been arrested following an investigation coordinated with the FBI.

"The arrest follows an investigation into network intrusions and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group.

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act, and Fraud Act offences and was taken to a central London police station, where he currently remains in custody for questioning."

According to the release, a treasure trove of intelligence was gathered. Was it actually a member of LulzSec or just a lone wolf? If it was the former, LulzSec is keeping a tight poker face as they addressed the story only moments ago.

"Seems the glorious leader of LulzSec got arrested, it's all over now... wait... we're all still here! Which poor bastard did they take down?"
