Default Transferring domain : do I risk?

I was attracted by the option offered by marblehost.com - the company promises to add a year to the expire date of the domain name transferred to them. It sounds good, the more so because I intended to get a new hosting, but does (this) tranferring mean any risks?

Yes it does, and I wouldn't do it. If you transfer your domain over to them, and end up not liking their service guess what? They CAN extort you however they wish, and you better pay them what they want because they control your domain.

Its only 10 bucks a year, and cheaper if you renew using coupons, not really worth letting anyone have control over your domain, ever

I don't ever recommend someone transferring their domain to a webhost or to let a webhost register a domain for them. Always have full control over your domain by registering and renewing them yourself from a verified registrar.

As said above, the webhost can attempt to extort you.
Another thing is if the webhost goes out of business, they will most likely attempt to sell your domain without your knowledge, they can also take ages to make any changes you want, regarding MX records and such.

I've had experience with webhosts who are horrible when it comes to them controlling your domains. Just stay away from a situation like that altogether.
