Bioware hacked, 18,000 customer's have details compromised
By Steve Donaghy
It seems that not a day goes by without a company being hacked and having people's personal information compromised, or worse still, spread about the internet. The latest in this string of attacks is Bioware, according to Develop.
An intruder allegedly gained access to the Neverwinter Nights community forums on Tuesday, compromising the usernames, passwords, email addresses and birth dates of 18,000 users. There's no word on if the passwords were encrypted or stored in plain text, so it is recommended that you change your password immediately if you are one of the affected. Bioware has sent out an email to those they believe were compromised and automatically reset their EA account passwords. The email reads -
?We have emailed those whose accounts may have been compromised and either disabled their accounts or reset their EA Account passwords,? read a BioWare statement.
?If you did not receive an email from us, or if your password still works for your EA account, your username and password were not compromised. Nevertheless, changing your password regularly is always helpful to protect your account.?
Many different groups have been attacked lately, from online stores to the CIA, however games companies seem to be a prime target. If you tend to use the same password on many sites, or haven't updated your password recently, now might be the time to change habits.ShareShiz Reviewed by ShareShiz on .
