what is the difference between using windows and linux for using a website

i been mostly using linux but i always see alot of window vps

are windows alot more better for using your websites to be hosted on theses or is it no difference in security etc to linux

Windows is easier to setup for those whom are inexperienced with linux since it's more familiar with the GUI.

I believe that Linux is more secure out of the box but if you know how to properly secure Windows then you would probably be good with either.

I am personally using Windows in order to avoid cpanel expenses.

Windows VPS (with extra IP) $15 + $1 = $16 /mo
Linux VPS (with cpanel and extra IP) $15 + $15 + $1 = $31 /mo

Note that there is a difference in setting up software like php etc.

Also not all scripts are Windows supported.

Both have different advantages & fulfill different requirements. Use one which fulfill your requirements. You will not get proper answer, some will say Linux & some will say Windows. Simply use which fulfill your requirements.

Windows is not a problem anymone. There are some WAMP combos (or you can do your own ). And you can install popular forum software using those

I use Linux personally for web hosting and do use cPanel and don't pay for, technically free but is included with the server monthly price.

Windows is easier, and usually the price of 'Windows License' if you order a server or vps are usually costs...$32+ or 15$ for VPS - Windows is about $15 for VPS and $25 for Windows. If it's an RDP and you don't pay for it, I guess you're fine.

I guess what it comes to as to preference.

Linux with cPanel - Easy
Linux without cPanel - Slightly harder for a non linux user, might have to hire someone.

Windows with any control panel - Might have to hire someone.
Windows with WAMP or other variations - Easy (or might hire someone)
Windows manually - Might have to hire someone.
