jQuery / HTML 5 has a long way to go but it'll get there, Flash is slowly becoming obsolete.
Creating basic 2D games in HTML 5 / Javascript isn't as difficult and annoying as you would think it is, API's like Impact make it an easy process.

hasonmedia.comFlash is great for proper 2D Animation and flash games whereas JQuery is great to use in Web.
