Why are bad words bad?

For example, fuck is considered a bad, cruel or disrespectful word. It is a bad word because what fuck means is bad so the word becomes bad. If words are bad because of what their meaning is, wouldn't the word "bad" be a bad word?

When you are little you "Shit" and your parents tell you "Dont Say that, its a bad word" is just how it has been for ever. So you grow up with the mentality that "shit" is a bad word..

Example:
is being gay bad? Not really. But most parents raised their kids telling them being gay is bad,etc
