Rapidshare Phishing - Ultimate Guide

There has recently been a spate of RapidShare phishing, and to thwart this, we want to inform and educate the users for all warez forums and ddl sites. We need to work together to reduce the risk to our users and ourselves.

What is Rapidshare Phishing?
Rapidshare Phishing, for those of you that don't know, is a fake Rapidshare web site. It is designed to look exactly like Rapidshare. It is made to steal your account information and to steal your credit card (or any payment method) if you decide to sign up for a premium account.

How to know?
First sign for an RS phishing are url masking, means the posted link is not rapidshare but a redirect link to a site that looks like rapidshare.com

Some links might be:
*******, ************, brave******** and many other more.

Note: Some redirect links, do actually go to the real rapidshare link, but in both cases, if your not sure, do not use them. Anyway url masking is not allowed in our forum.

What if the link you see is a rapidshare.com link?
Be aware not everything you see as rapidshare.com links means it is really a rapidshare.com site. One can play with the hyper link. Example below:



As you can see that it perfectly looks like an RS link http://rapidshare.com/files/3242421/somefile.rar
And it is coded! Or is it? Pay attention you will notice that it is quoted, which means they can insert images, urls and any other bbcode. In short quoted links should be reported and be aware from them.

In our example we will check where this site will go, if it will redirect to rapidshare.com domain means its safe.
Simply hover your mouse cursor over the link and look at your status bar, you will see the destination of that link. Check screen shot below:



As u can see your simply going to a scam site!

Notes:
Some links are like http://r3242rapidshare.com/files/3242421/somefile.rar
This is a 100% phishing site! the domain above is r3242rapidshare.com and not rapidshare.com
If the link was http://r3242.rapidshare.com/files/3242421/somefile.rar then it belongs to rapidshare.com domain.


In short:
Just download CODED links that shows a rapidshare.com domain! coded links are meant to copy paste them in a new page and not to click on them.
