Rewrite URL with htaccess?

Hi all,
I need to rewrite the urls on platinumW to SEO friendly links.
I've been looking around and they are a lot of custom mods BUT if you do one thing wrong you can fuck up the whole forum.

So my question is, can anyone help me?
Can anyone help me with rewriting the urls with HTACCESS file?

I have done it in my forum, but its phpbb3. Is there any mod for phpbb2?

Well doing it with htaccess alone would prove impossible if you want the topic titles to be in the urls as well. Since you would need to run db queries to generate the topic title to inject into the urls.

If you were to make them short like just use the topic id, then it should be possible I guess.
