google.comVPS Folder Permissions.
Have a VPS installed everything great, but having an issue with permissions.
I installed wordpress. Now wordpress requires apache be given access to the sites files in order to upgrade itself, install and remove plugins without the need of FTP credentials.
I chowned the site files for apache so now wordpress can create sitemaps, run cache programs, and upgrade itself perfect. But I lost the ability to edit files via ftp or file manager since i lost the permissions.
How can I get the benefit of both? Is there a way I can have my user and apache run both.Trueno22 Reviewed by Trueno22 on . VPS Folder Permissions. epicimagehost.comA)I believe you only had to chmod 777 a few dirs for the apache thingy to work.
If you chown'd the entire site, it means your not the owner of it.
B)If you're running your own VPS. You could download file-zilla ftp client and login as root using the sftp protocol.
C)Or use ACL to allow both u and apache to have all the rights but thats a bitch in command-line.
I'd go for A, if that turns out to be harder than you thought, go for B.
C will get you in a mental hospital.
