Default Help with dual boot setup

I'm currently running Windows 7 64 bit, and would like to be able to run XP due to certain compatibility problems. I've tried running it through vmware but it didn't solve it. So whats best way to dual boot please?

    Website's:
    Team-XPC.com
Create a partition, insert XP disk, set BIOS to start from CD, install onto new partition.

    That's the VERY basic version

That sounds easy enough, but what happens when you boot up? does it automatically detect 2 operating systems and let you choose or is there something special you have to do to get that?
