captcha is great for autoposter (blocking 100%) but it's annoying for other "legit users" and make them dislike your forum.

maybe adding captcha on the first posts of the user.let's say he have to prove it's "humanity" for the first (10 maybe) posts.
But I like the .htaccess solution it's cleaner and users won't notice it.

As for the MPU, its a premium service. If people are spamming you just let me know their IP with some proof and ill take appropriate action.

There are other posters available, you will have to speak to the creators im afraid.

Isn't it the purpose of the auto-poster to spam? People spam using bots when they don't like to do things manually. The auto-poster is basically doing the same job as a bot. It submits to hundreds of forum at once which is nothing but "spam". If you ban people's IP for spamming, then the very purpose of the software is defeated.

I found a working way to stop Multiposter/Autoposters. with this option posters have to enter Captcha to post new thread.

Go to Usergroup > Usergroup Manager > Edit Usergroup > Require Human Verification on Configured Actions

I'm Using vBulletin 3.8 and it works like a charm

Stop by adding UserAgents in .htaccess.

Don't put captcha!! If your forum is not as big as WBB, enabling captcha will be a huge mistake. Your regular forum users will be annoyed at having to enter captchas everytime and your forum activity would take a serious hit.
