Setting up FTP server on ubuntu so user XXXX has only acess to /var/www/

I tried using ProFTPD Server ..otherwise i used ( webmin and lighttpd) but the result was that my user had access to the whole filesystem.
I created a group www, changed /var/www to belong to that group and then added the new user 'ftpuser' to this group.
But when I logged the user had access to everything in the filesystem.
Is there a good and simple ftp server for linux that you guys recommend? I need to be able to easily manage permissions, like which user access which directories.

you need to create usergroups in webmin and then allow permissions to them if am not wrong

i've never used webadmin so i'm not sure tbh.

but you should be able to create ftp user's automatically with it I believe.
it would be easier than manually creating them, giving permission, etc.

yea ftp user i had created automatically but still was access to the whole filesystem i need access only to the domain. now i have access to the whole filesystem and everyone users can see all what i have on the server if i give users permissions of course .) what do i do? any help? very thanks my mates.

you have to chroot the users ..

Example

 DefaultRoot ~/public_html/blah/

in proftpd.conf will do the job

so mate, now i add only this:

DefaultRoot ~
User zkouska
RootLogin off

and access to ftp domain is working perfect and i dunno how i done it

well i know the above worked for you is because the way webmin works...would have helped you out but see you got it sorted
