Debian or CentOS .... i7 Server

Hi,

My Server is set to be ready on Monday.

more like 12 hours from now.

So I ordered CentOS cuz i been using debian for last 2 years and wanted a change.

but then .. I never used CentOs and i'm kinda confused..

So any recommendations ?

Server Specs:

• Intel i7-920, 4x 2.67 GHz,
• 12,288 MB DDRIII RAM,
• 2x 1,500 GB (SATA) HDD
• 100mbit / 5,000 GB

ive heard debian is lighter out of the box tho ,

Only thing I've heard that's good about CentOS is that it runs more stable, longer.
I'm sure there's many more good things about it though.

Debian is the best server OS *EVER*!

Although CentOS is quite good, debian has a better package manager and is much more supported.

Debian is also unstable sometimes if you don't set it up right. If you do set it up right, it's great.

Also CentOS don't release some packages (e.g. new openssh) because the maintainers see them as buggy, even if they aren't.

My personal preference would be Debian. It's light, simple, stable, *.deb packages.

i think i'll get debian.

can't risk a half-assed transition to centos.
I'll install it on my laptop and experiment on it.

In my point of view..CentOS is more stable than Debian.
its a known fact that you can almost install any package by using aptitude / apt-get of Debian ,however by including some additional repositories (dag),on CentOS, even yum can install almost everything that apt-get can install.
also CentOs is based on the Enterprise Level RHEL which makes CentOS more stable/superior.

I use Debian.. Haven't tried CentOS because there is no need as im 100% satisfied!

Careful with claims. Ubuntu is more bloated than Debian so add a wee bit to the Ubuntu scores and you get +- Debian results.
