    Default downsizing video files

    i'm just curious how to downsize the actual size of a video file.

    like i've noticed mkv files, are substantially smaller than avis. but i just converted an avi to mkv, starting at 170mbs and it went up to 280mbs... or around that.

    so, how would i go about this all?
