Customers using the content delivery network MaxCDN can now opt-in to use CloudProxy, a web application firewall and intrusion detection system, designed to protect sites from Distributed Denial of Service attacks, out-of-date software, malware distribution and website blacklisting.

MaxCDN and Sucuri, the company behind CloudProxy, have integrated their services to give customers the ability to make websites both fast and secure without additional hardware or software. Sucuri CloudProxy users can easily add MaxCDN to take advantage of a CDN, and MaxCDN customers can use CloudProxy to ensure traffic is legitimate and safe.
“Our customers count on MaxCDN to improve their business results through our high-speed and reliable network; a big part of that reliability is making sure that we deliver the most secure network possible,” David Henzel, MaxCDN Vice President of Marketing said “I am thrilled about this partnership since it allows our customers an easy way to add more security, and it allows Sucuri’s customers an easy way to add more speed.”
CloudProxy starts at $7.49 per month for a single website, and costs $24.29 per month to provide protection to as many as 10 websites. MaxCDN’s fees start at $9 per month for 100GB of bandwidth.
The threat of DDoS attacks taking down websites by flooding them with requests is becoming a major problem as they grow in sophistication and size, with the average one being 3.1 Gbps and 1.5 million packets per second. Companies like Black Lotus and Defense.net have been busy developing systems to better respond to threats, and CDN providers like Akamai have been adding DDoS capabilities into their core services.
Scrubbing web traffic for threats that slow down a network is becoming important for CDNs to remain quick and responsive. Sucuri says its partnership with MaxCDN is part of its bigger plans to integrate the CloudProxy firewall with all major CDN environments.
