Default Searching for text in files

Hi all although not strictly development its leading that way.

I have a script and im looking for a specific piece of code that i need to change, i have opened all files and searched but cant find it, so im guessing i have missed it.

Is there a way i can search a whole /dir for a word or phrase that would be in one of the files inside the /dirI suspect not so im going to guess its back to opening every file to search.

    But thought i would ask

    Cheers

Or you could use Find in Files option in notepad++ (with in all sub folders option)
Or if you need more options, then you could use external applications like Windows Grep: http://www.wingrep.com/
or a powerful tool like PowerGrep: http://www.powergrep.com/

if you are on windows use notepad++ to search in files/directory
    if on Linux use grep.
