Thought I would just list some traffic generating techniques that can be used to help increase visitors to your website. In some cases I have put links down to take you to the resource in question. I would like to STRESS that these links are purely resource intended only and are in no way affiliate links.

This is by no means a definitive list of techniques as I have only listed 5, there are plenty of others out there and I would invite other members to list some within this thread, however the few that I have added below should get the newbie to marketing started in their traffic generation.

All of the examples I have listed below are Free and if done correctly start bringing in traffic to your site quite quickly.

Finally, apologies in advance for the length of this post, but thought it best to keep all the info in one place.

1 Article Marketing is a type of advertising in which businesses write short articles related to their respective industry. These articles are made available for distribution and publication in the marketplace. Each article contains a bio box and byline that include references and contact information for the author's business just like your signature on a forum. Well-written content articles released for free distribution have the potential of increasing the authoring business' credibility within its market as well as attracting new clients.

2. Forum Marketing is a very underrated, but extremely effective method of marketing your website and building a list of subscribers as it drives targeted traffic to your site. However, please be mindful that although this is an effective way of generating traffic you do need to be an active member of the forum community.

3. Social Media Marketing is another great way of generating free traffic. Through this form of marketing you are able to add your website link to your profile, people are able to follow you and you are also able to join targeted groups to gain more exposure to your site.

4. Blog Commenting is another free traffic generator which is underestimated by many. Not only can it bring you extra exposure for your site, it can also cement the way to building good relationships with other bloggers, this in turn can provide opportunities for backlinks to your site, interviews and also guest posting.

As always, when you do post on as a blog the post needs to be relevant to the topic and also add value to people that are reading it. In order to optimise your comments for traffic, you need to be one of the first comments in the topic as this will give you the maximum exposure to your site.

5. JV Giveaways / Giveaway Events is an extremely effective method to help build your list of subscribers when you enter the giveaway event as a contributor. A giveaway event is basically a website where multiple marketers will contribute a free gift, this could be in the form of an e-Book, report or some software etc...

The contributors all then promote the giveaway allowing their gift to be viewed by thousands of people. If someone is then interested in the free gift then they will be directed to the relevant squeeze page and subscribe to that site.
