Does the D-22 shoutbox uses a lot of server CPU?

Yes I am, I have not upgraded to 3.0 yet because I have to wait for a plugin to support it.

Ah ok, well yes i used it on a busy 2.3.x site a while back and it was fine, we didn't let guests see it though.

Of course guest cant see it or post on it. Were you on a shared hosting when you were using 2.3.x?

yep, we were using shared hosting. As long as you don't set it to refresh every 5 seconds it will be fine.

Dunno about D-22 but I know Inferno Shoutbox is a piece of junk performance wise. IP.Shoutbox would be the most efficient on both IPB 2 and 3.

IP.Shoutbox is just a slightly upgraded d-22 shoutbox. Pretty much the same performance wise.

It has various performance improvements. Plus, IPS is backing the project.
