Why isn't the problem with dead links solved yet?
Hey guys! Ever since I started using filehosts like a year ago I've been really surprised about all the dead links, this is a problem that seems extremely easy to solve.
This is my idea (using Rapidshare and Netload as examples but obviously it applies to any filehost)
1: An uploader uploads the file to his server (Dedi/VPS etc).
2: The server splits the files into 1.5GB RAR pieces and uploads the pieces to Rapidshare and Netload.
3: The server connects to a tinyurl service, makes a small url for every Rapidshare link.
4: The server posts the links on a forum/blog etc.
5: The server starts to continously monitor the links to see if they are online and available.
(The uploaded links goes offline for whatever reason, DCMA, inactivty)
1: The server notices that the links are down.
2: The server connects to Netload (the files could be cached locally for a few days first) and downloads the files to the server.
3: The server changes the md5 on the files.
4: The server reuploads the files to Rapidshare.
5: The server connects to the tinyurl service and edits the previous links with the new ones.
6: The server deletes the files from the local harddrive.
7: The server starts to monitor the new links.
All this automatically. This solution seems so obvious to me. If its possible you could even remote upload directly from Netload to Rapidshare and completely bypass the server middleman. Using a backup filehost like this will enable you to buy any unmetered VPS without the need for a lot of storage.
My coding skills isn't that extensive, but seems like something like this would take a bit of work but spare a lot of people from the headache you get from dead links.Frongo Reviewed by Frongo on .
