Creating Cluster in home to increase Video Encoding Speed

hi guys,
is it possible to use 2 or more motherboard to produce cluster in home.
because encoding speed depends on core, so using this cluster we can reduce the encoding time (less than 1min for 1 movie) is possible...??



Note:
1) Motherboard includes Processor and RAM
2) 1 SSD for total cluster
3) No internet connectivity or online, Fully in LAN environment


i googled and found some, but anybody tried this.....?? or any step by step process..???

i think it would be more worthwhile if you buy a amd processor with as many cores(physical) as possible.

here is my set up

amd 8 core processor.. i can encode from 1080i to 360p at crf 23 x264 at around 200-250 fps. thats like a 100min movie gets encoded in 10mins.
i think your setup wont be THAT effective./or might take time to setup etc.

yes mate, AMD 8 core is a high performer(intel i7 too)

can you show your configuration...??







but any way to combine two or more, to improve further...???
(i,e) now processing time for you is 10 min, if combined means it may reduced to 5min or less, right..??

There are some asus motherboards on which you can setup 2 or 4 processors.
You could try them , clusters are complex to setup..

You don't need a cluster. Get a motherboard that supports 4 processors, then plug in 4 processors, a 15k drive, and off you go. 4 processors with 6-8 cores each will be a lot of encoding power; a cluster is a waste of time, money, and space.

Would be a logical way to go, Hyperz, if he did not want it just to encode videos. Kind of sounds like a waste to purchase all of that for video encoding. 4 socket mobo's gonna deliver him the compute power he needs, and more.
