First: Decide how important are your files(1. You can download them from internet, borrow from a friend... 2. You will never get that lets say pictures again but you don't really care... 3. You had some really important stuff in there, like business stuff etc).

Case 1 and 2: Try with various tools like Recuva etc(you can find a bunch of them over the internet or included in "Hirren's Boot CD"). The important thing is that you don't download/save/create anything on that drive before you recover your files, because when files are deleted they are still somewhere on your hard before you overwrite them with new files. If you overwrite them with new files then chances for recovering are minimal.

Case 3: Immediately call someone who is specialised in this field and don't do anything(don't even touch your PC ).

actually, all that happens when you delete a file is that a single binary bit changes from 1 to 0. The file still exists perfectly as it was before you deleted it. The operating system effectively has permission to over-write the file should it need the space. By undeleting the file, all you do is return the 0 to a 1 and hey presto, the operating system can see it again, and is not allowed to over-write it.

As a result, its extremely easy to recover files, unless you started copying files onto it. Recovering files that have been over-writtern are another story all together. This is where government standard applications come into play.
