No problem in copyright. I download torrent using a US VPS for a long time.

However, some VPS providers ban BT due to it costs system resource too much.

Keep the VPS to yourself. Don't even think of sharing it with anyone. And qianyun6 is right. Many hosting companies don't allow torrent downloads, even on the VPS, as it consume a very high bandwidth and the shared bandwidth is 'choked'.

disable peer exchange and try to use private torrents, you will be safe on 99%.
