I think it depends on your server. If you have a good server which is fast you can install a link checker bot like Dman's or nihalz on your site which will crawl your site and move dead topics to the bin. Neither are 100% perfect as they'll admit but their ok. You'll need to update these and keep updating them yourself though. If on the other hand your on shared hosting which may not have cURL enabled, can't turn off safemode or it's a smaller site you could use my http://linkzbot.com/ Link Checker. It runs on a different server so it won't slow your site down. This also means it's constantly updated, easier to install and if you have any errors or database problems it won't affect your site. thanks mate i tried dman but its kinda kinky when it comes to rapidshare checking.

I kind of agree with Mr. Happy, my bot was never meant to be perfect. It can not be. You can not estimate when will a site change it's API or page source. Other thing, since I'm no longer updating the bot, it's far from "ok". You shouldn't use it. Third thing, I had similar site as yours Mr. Happy, the only problem was site source/API changing, and people getting notification of dead links, which aren't really dead links. That being said, I am glad you took this method, and wish you luck.
