Apple Orders 65 Million Retina Displays For iPad 3

Now this report I will be mentioning has some fishy details in it, so take some details lightly. As reported on the Chinese news site, ChinaTimes, Apple has reportedly ordered more than 65 million Retina Displays from Samsung and LG. Now this does make sense, considering the great success of the iPad 2 and the hype surrounding this third-generation iPad. However the report does not mention anything about displays being ordered from Sharp. This is a little odd as we have seen leaked pictures of rumored Sharp Retina Displays.



While it is unclear if this 65 million includes any displays made by Sharp, it is clear that Apple has some high hopes for this next iPad. The iPad 2 only saw 40 million displays ordered, which hopefully means there will not be as much of a shortage upon initial launch as there was for the iPad 2.

The third-generation iPad, dubbed the iPad 3, is rumored to have a Retina Display, quad-core processor, and maybe LTE connectivity and could be announced as early as March.
