Anyone built a media center pc for movies / music ?

So as my main setup i have my desktop x2 screens how ever i normally stream movies i download from my desktop through the xbox to my 42" but my xbox has taken a shit so im wanting to setup a small media pc i was looking at this bare bone for the base http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...021&CatId=3428

i know im going to have to get a good video card i plan on running hdmi to my widescreen from the video card but what im really thinking about is getting a sound card ?

ive messed with every thing accept sound cards do they really make any diff ? i currently have the Logitech Z506 6-Piece 5.1 Channel Surround System which i will transfer over to this small built machine which will be used for videos / music only maybe some porn

I dont want to spend a ton on this project as i can get another xbox for ~199 usd easily but id rather start a pc build.

Any suggestions on parts ? operating system ? i was thinking just windows but im open for suggestions on everything.

And yes i know i could run like a 12' hdmi cable from my current pc & gfx card but i have a wife and don't like anyone having access to my system

Well i have a Apple TV box but another thing im looking at is storage i already have nearly 1.5 tb of movies on my current pc which ill enable network sharing on that drive as well
