I've used Gandi.net for a few years and I've been really impressed. They're not the cheapest, but their terms of service and policies are the best in that you actually retain legal ownership of your domain and they don't auction off your domains when they expire. And, they offer free SSL for the first year. Namecheap is also good. I have also used Godaddy and Moniker, and would strongly discourage using either.
