+ A nice way to promote your site by making the sitename as your pasword

    - More people download you files without a password

Most of the big uploaders use password and still get maximum downloads. So I don't think there's any effect of using passwords. If people want your file, they will download it, passworded or not.

From a downloaders point of view I dont like password protected files. Pretty common downloaders start a download then when the download is finished (specially if its a big one and the download speed sucks etc) they forget where they got the file from and then are forced to start search. Personal I then rather search for the same file on a DLL site then on google and then stay away from posts that consist of passwords.

A nice way to promote ones site...naa I rather see the uploaders just add a .url file in the compressed file and also add the sites name in the filename. Thats way more effective in my view.

Does most of the big uploaders really use passwords? Thats not my personal experience but might ofcourse depend on where one get the downloads from.
