They had a same kind of promo a few days back. I bought one and it charged me the normal $10 fee.

Then you did something wrong. I've used coupon codes with them tons of times and never been charged more than the $1.18 (or w/e the price was).

If we need whois protection, it's either 8.5$ or 13$ USD in total.
