Help setting up a VPS

Right so I'm ordering a VPS from IonVM, and as I wondered like what to do It says 'Hostname' What do i put in there my domain or put something before my domain name like host.domain.com? I'm a bit new to this :L

Setup a subdomain in your registrar panel and point it to your VPS IP.

but you don't need to create a subdomain, he must create A record

Hostname is basicly a pointer to the server.

like: server1.mydomainname.ext >>>> 0.0.0.0

A record to his naked domain name from his ip or using a sub domain like www to his ip will do the same ...

first point ur naked domain to ur vps ip using A record in dns..

then create another A record using www or anything u wish to ur naked domain name..

eg

urdomain.com -> your ip [A record]

www [or] anything.urdomain.com -> [A record]

put the subdomain.urdomain.com in ur vps host...

create the name servers ..as ns1,ns2.urdomain.com and update ur registar & ur vps provider as well..now ur good to go..
